UC Essay Transfer Applicant Prompt #2
My intended major is social and behavioral studies. After attending JFK Middle College I was able to gain college units through college classes. I was able to get a head start on my goals to attend the university of my dream, and JFK was able to provide me that as prior to its provided college units, programs, and majors. When I heard of JFK’s good education system, advisors, and teachers, it add on to more of the reasons why I’d like to attend that school. JFK was a fit into my goal of getting an early start on my major and experience college. I liked the idea of starting early on taking classes for my major and for college a head start or out of the way. I learned so much more about colleges and universities when I took the Norco College classes. That was where I found the major I intend on applying in. I’ve not yet received any circumstances that have kept me from gaining a major as I’ve already been doing my best throughout my past years in maintaining a passing grade in all my classes, subjects, and grades. Although, for whatever the circumstance, if I’m not able to get my major, I’ll continue to do my very best to take enough college credits and Norco Class to get my intended major in social and behavioral studies.
An experience I had on field was when I interviewed one of my psychology professor at Norco College. I learned not only the aspects of psychology when I took my professor’s class, but also learned more in depth of psychology fields when I interviewed my professor. I learned that there is a great demand for psychological services in schools, hospitals, mental health centers, and social services agencies. Also, psychologists with a doctoral or specialist degree and post-doctoral work experience will have the best job opportunities and chances of employment. Psychologists with a master degree will face competition for positions of employment, and many of them will have to most likely find jobs in a related field outside of psychology. Psychologists have to specialize in counseling, clinical, or another specific area of psychology. They are known for diagnosing and treating people affected by personal problems and psychological illnesses or disorders. They advise and help clients with personal problems and sometime travel outside of work to conduct research and to advise clients. Psychologists have a flexible schedule of work and average work hours with full-time psychologists being able to receive additional benefits in addition to their salaries: paid vacation time, paid sick leave, and health insurance. Psychologists make between $40,000 to $110,000 a year. The average income is $68,000 a year. After learning all this through taking psychology classes, interviewing my psychology professor, and finding out if psychology as a major really was for me, I learned that social and behavioral studies is a perfect fit to my goal in getting a major at Norco College and then being able to transfer to the university of my dream.
